My previous post was a call to an empty room: “Can anyone help? […] I am looking for help—your help. If you know of something—anything—that fits these specifications, please tell me.” I was hunting for a free, genuinely intelligent AI editor stripped of the login walls that drove me away from Copilot. I defined the boundaries clearly: not a ghostwriter, not a co-author, just an intelligence sharp enough to elevate prose. Nobody answered. Not a single comment—just a solitary spam bot, which somehow cut deeper than absolute silence.
I found free alternatives without login walls. Several of them. But the moment I fed them real material—sections from the upcoming chapter draft—the process collapsed entirely. They failed to edit, and worse, they didn’t even seem to parse the instruction. So I cycled through prompts. I tightened them, loosened them, tested every permutation between rigid constraints and open air. The wall didn’t budge.
Which leaves me staring at an uncomfortable question: are the models fundamentally incapable of what I am asking, or have I simply forgotten how to ask? Either way, the summer series stays paused. Not out of stubbornness, but out of a refusal to publish compromised prose. CogitActive deserves better. You deserve better.
