I am very happy to announce that the first release of WordPress is now available for download. A full change log is available, but here is a brief overview of the new features . . . WordPress is available completely free of charge under the GPL license. Enjoy!Matt Mullenweg
This was posted 20 years ago on May 27, 2003 when co-founders Matt Mullenweg and Mike Little announced that WordPress was available to the public. This initial release (version 0.70) was the first official public release of WordPress indeed.
